Failure of First-line Cancer Treatment as a Result of Smoking

Graham Warren, MD, PhD, discusses an article from JAMA Network Open on first-line cancer treatment failure and the costs associated with smoking in patients with cancer.

"This is the first time we've taken a look at the cost of cancer treatment after it comes back after smoking," Warren, a radiation oncologist and researcher from MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, said.

It's important to encourage patients to quit smoking after a cancer diagnosis and try to identify the best most effective therapeutics in each case.
