New Uses for Existing Therapies in Breast Cancer Research

Researchers have understood the role of RANK protein in bond remodeling but are recently exploring its role in mammary gland development and in breast cancer, according to Eva González-Suárez, PhD, of IDIBELL.

"We believe these inhibitors that are already being used in the clinic... can also be used in the context of breast cancer," she said.

RANK inhibitors are currently administered to patients with osteoporosis and bone metastasis, and may be useful in breast cancer.

González-Suárez also discusses another hot topic research area involving triple negative breast cancer.
