Understanding Recent Breast Cancer Vaccine Breakthroughs
A new clinical trial is underway for a breast cancer vaccine for advanced triple-negative breast cancer.
This common type of breast cancer is typically seen in younger women. Chemotherapy is traditionally the only treatment option.
The vaccine is geared to treat, not prevent this cancer by removing triple negative breast cancer's invisibility to the immune system, which can then attack it directly, making immunotherapy treatment a possibility. Antibodies then fight the cancer alongside chemotherapy.
Eleven major cancer centers are recruiting patients for the study, including the WVU Cancer Institute.
